Microsoft Explains Further Why Crackdown 3 Was Delayed

When I first heard that Crackdown 3 would be coming out (eventually) back in 2014 at E3 I was over the top excited! I mean this was a game that I played as much and followed as closely as any other series I loved. But Crackdown 1 and 2 were beaten pretty quickly by me so I was waiting for 3 to come out so I could continue the Crackdown journey.

Over the past 3 years we heard a lot of rumors at Gamers Elite about the new game coming out soon. Then, at E3 in 2017, it finally happened. Microsoft announced that Crackdown 3 would be coming to Xbox One, again as an exclusive, in 2017. I know that a lot of people were really excited to hear this – including me!

But, then earlier this month we had heard that, unfortunately, the game would be delayed. There really was no rhyme or reason behind the delay to be honest. Microsoft never really said much more than that.

Then on August 19th, Shannon Loftis the pub manager for Microsoft Studios put out an announcement on the reasoning behind the game delay.

“We’re very excited about Crackdown 3, and so are many fans, and so it’s a difficult call to move the release date. However, we want to make sure to deliver the right game, with the right quality, and at the right time[…]Getting the balance right between the three modes is important, and we are going to take the extra development time to ensure that. Gamers can expect Crackdown 3 in Spring of 2018.”

Now a few days later another announcement has been put out by Shannon, again, that pretty much notes the same thing above.

“We definitely underestimated the challenge of making sure the quality bar of all three of those modes was high and it delivers on what we need to deliver on,” she explained. “So we had to take the extra time [and] make sure that we’re delivering the game the Crackdown fans want. It was a super hard decision to do that, and it was made harder because we announced the game.”

So, that’s that. It will be released in 2018 and even then, who knows.  I’ll believe it when I see it.  In the meantime, I still have money down on the game and it will probably stay there for the time being.
