Square Enix has officially announced that they will be making a brand-spanking’ new Tomb Raider game. Sweeeeet! The statement, which can be read below, was pretty short though. They did not announce what the name of the new Tomb Raider game will be, what consoles or devices it will be available on OR the release date.
If you can’t see the image:
“A new Tomb Raider is coming. Driven by our goal of putting our fans first, we want you to know that it won’t be long between the official reveal and when you can play,” read the statement. “Our journey will begin with a major event in 2018. We simply can’t wait to take you on Lara Croft’s defining adventure.”
A new Tomb Raider game has been rumored for quite a while now. Even Phil (Rogers) the Square Enix boss accidentally let it slip in 2015 that another 3rd title could be in the making!
One supposed game title was this Shadow Of The Tomb Raider that was “leaked” but no one really knows if it was really leaked or was just BS to start with.
As of right now its also really not clear who will be making the Tomb Raider game. in 2016 they hired Visceral Games for the game direction. Then you also have a chance that it could go back to Crystal Dynamics.
It should also be noted that a new Tomb Raider movie is coming in 2018 which is really exciting to hear. I love the Tomb Raider games but I love the movies even more. According to Square Enix, the movie is coming out March 16, 2018, and its starring Alicia Vikander and Dominic West.
“From Warner Bros. Pictures and Metro-Goldwyn-Mayer Pictures, Tomb Raider is the story that will set a young and resolute Lara Croft on a path toward becoming a global hero. The film stars Oscar winner Alicia Vikander (Ex Machina, The Danish Girl) in the lead role, under the direction of Roar Uthaug (The Wave), with Oscar-winner Graham King (The Departed) producing under his GK Films banner. The film¹s production begins on the heels of the 20th anniversary of the wildly popular videogame franchise from Square Enix, Crystal Dynamics and Eidos Montreal.”
