At E3 2017 we saw a ton of games – ones we already knew were in production as well as quite a few surprises. But even though a lot of games were covered over all of the conferences, there were still games that were not mentioned and fans were a little disappointed, to say the least. Here are just a few of the top games missing from E3.
Red Dead Redemption 2
Alright alright so this one has actually been rumored about for years and just recently Rockstar made it known that yes, they were working on Red Dead Redemption 2. I wrote quite a few articles about this. Originally it was said this game would be coming in 2017, but then, later on, it was said it was not released until 2018. Total bummer! The least we expected to see or hear was some news at E3 but it was unfortunately completely skipped over. Rockstar very rarely makes appearances at E3, but someone somewhere thought they would have at least mentioned the game in passing! You can check out Gamer Elites article on Red Dead here.
I remember talking about this game a whole back with my ex – it looked really amazing, interesting and hello! Daryl! I think a lot of us thought that we would hear more about this game at the Sony conference but instead, it ended up here under the top games missing from E3! Shame, I was really looking forward to hearing more about this one – especially considering when it was at E3 a few years ago it was a pretty vague trailer and concept. What type of game is it? What year is the game in? Where is the games location? Who knows! Not me! One of the things you have to remember is that the game is from Hideo Kojima. 2 words I associate with Hideo Kojima is uniqueness (in games and styles of gaming), but also reclusive – Hideo Kojima very rarely visits the gaming and publishing conventions let alone actually talks about the games he is working on.
The Last Of Us Part 2
This is on the top games missing from E3, however, I sort of understand why. This is not like Death Stranding where we have next to no information. With the Last Of Us Part 2 aka The Lost Legacy, there are tons of articles, blogs, news pieces, videos and trailers out there. Its a known game. It has an actual release date. In fact I wrote an article about this one as well which you can read here.
A month or so ago I contemplated whether they would be releasing a new Borderlands. I saw a few instances online that pointed that they were, indeed, going to release a new game. I mentioned it a few people and though most were excited, they had said that this would not really be happening. Not sure why. Its freaking Borderlands. This is one of my favorite games and I would gladly pay for 3! Later on, after writing the piece on wondering if Borderlands 3 would be released, 2K did indeed say they were working on Borderlands 3, in passing. I know a lot of us hoped they would mention something at E3 but alas they did not! Out of all the games on the top games missing from E3, this is the one I was really bummed out about the most! A lot of rumors say that this is a game that while its going to happen sooner or later (most likely 2018 or 2019), it might not be called Borderlands 3! If you’ve checked out the 2k website recently over the past year, they seem to be having a lot of complications within the company; from lead writer Mikey Neumann leaving for health reasons to new staff being hired to work on the game. I could honestly care less if its called Borderlands 3 but it better be Borderlands and not some spin-off crap! As of right now, no actual release date has been mentioned. Guess we will just have to wait and see!
Dead Island 2
Yea I pretty much gave up on this game. Its been so back and forth. I really didn’t expect them to even mention it at E3 so its no surprise to me that its one of the top games missing from E3! This game has more rumors than any other game out there. They’ve been supposedly working on it since 2014 when the trailer was first shown at E3 2014. No one really said when it would be released but over the years there has been a lot of speculation if the game was really coming out, when it would be coming out, what types of upgrades we would be seeing, etc. Yager has actually removed from the project altogether an,d taken over by Sumo Digital. Who knows what is going to happen with this game and if it really ever will come out. Just because a developer says they are “working on a game” does not mean they are working on it full-time or have any actual plans for releasing it. Obviously, that’s true with Dead Island 2. Everyone seems pretty damn clueless!
In your opinion, what other games should Gamers Elite have added to the Top Games Missing From E3 post?
