Previously, Sony had released a VR Model ZVR1. A new model is about to be released – ZVR2 which is supposed to add some much needed features and improvements for the VR model. Here are the FAQ for the new VR model:
Is there a new PlayStation VR model? How is it different?
A hardware update to PlayStation VR is being prepared. The new version, model number CUH-ZVR2, features an updated design that enables the stereo headphone cables to be integrated with the VR headset and a slimmer, streamlined connection cable. There’s also an updated Processor Unit that supports HDR pass through, enabling users to enjoy HDR-compatible PS4 content on a TV without having to disconnect the Processor Unit in between the TV and the PS4 system. This function can be used only when the VR headset is turned off.
When will the new PS VR model become available in North America? How much will it be?
We will share details on the launch timing in North America at a later date. The pricing of the PS VR bundles will remain the same.
If I already own a PS VR, can I swap out my old Processor Unit with the updated one?
Because the cables of CUH-ZVR1 and CUH-ZVR2 are different, you cannot swap the Processor Units.
Supposedly the design is going to be one of the new improvements in the new VR model. The modified design means that the stereo headphone cables are now merged with the headset, as well as a slimmer, efficient connection cable – good news for anyone who spends their days fighting with the excessive amount of cables presently supplied with the VR headset.
It will also have a new Updated Processor Unit which will feature an HDR Pass Through Capability. This means that PlayStation owners can now watch HDR PS4 content on their TV without having to unplug the VR headset . It’s essential to note that the Processor Units can’t be exchanged – the Unit for the ZVR2 model will not be compatible with the ZVR1, and vice versa. This means that if you want the benefits of the new VR model, you have to purchase the new VR model. Its unfortunate in my opinion. It would be nice if they would offer some sort of a discount for those that have already purchased the previous model and want to purchase instead, the new model, but so far nothing has been said about this.
As you know, these VR models aren’t cheap!
As for the Western model, no actual price has been announced, nor has a date. Although, according to the Japanese website for PlayStation the new VR model on their website will cost around $400 in USD and it will launch on October 14th.
