There’s nothing I love more than to be able to customize things like controllers. Last year, Microsoft created a program called Xbox Design Lab. If you are not familiar with this program, I recommend checking it out.
The Xbox Design Lab initially was created with only a few customization options. But, now in 2017 there has been a new update and it allows for so many other variations. You can essentially build a controller that no one else has because there are something like 3 million color combinations.
The one thing I wish they would have was “textures” like camos and stuff like that, but they would need to keep it super classy.
For the Xbox Design Lab update these are the things that have changed:
Eleven new thumb stick colors including Glacier Blue, Zest Orange, Retro Pink, Electric Green, Robot White, Lightning Yellow, Ash Gray, Ink Blue, Mineral Blue, Sierra Brown and Desert Tan.
New metallic finishes for D-pads and triggers to add a premium look to your controller.
Black rubberized grips for added comfort and control.
So how does this work?
Its really easy. Go to Xbox Design Lab. Next, sign in to your Microsoft Account.
Then, start creating your piece de resistance. Depending on what you add, including engraving, sales, and what colors you use, its usually around $80 to $100.
That might seem like a lot, but let me tell you, I have been looking at a lot of custom controller shops for years now, and this is chump change compared to these other sites. Granted the other sites might allow more options like the camo I spoke about, but hey Microsoft is WAY less expensive.
For the same or about the same controller I made on Xbox Design Labs here is a comparison chart:
Evil Controllers $164
Modded Zone $120
The other sites either had really horrible colors or they were offline.
Anyway, the point is you can create really nice controllers on the Xbox Design Lab for not a lot of money. Here are a few I created that I really love:
As you can see – the colors and styles vary. Depending on my mood haha. Yes, those really are my little creations!
This is super easy to do. If you can click a few buttons, you can create a really nice looking controller. It should be noted that right now these are JUST Xbox One Controllers. They are NOT Xbox One Elite Controllers. Hopefully Microsoft is listening to their fans because I know a LOT of people want this option. I think one of the biggest reasons they are simply Xbox One controllers is it keeps the cost down.
Lastly, you can actually visit the gallery for the Xbox One Design lab. If you see a controller that someone else made – you can buy it.
